The Story of The White Room

The Story of The White Room

As I stood at the door of this lady’s apartment, I wondered what my first Reiki session would be like. For a long time, I had been feeling constantly tired, pretty stressed out with work and unable to relax properly. So, when a friend of mine recommended that I try Reiki, I decided that I would give it a go.

The door was opened by a lady with the most radiant smile I have ever seen. “Come in” she said. “It’s so right for you to be here”. It was a lovely thing for her to say, although it struck me as a little bit unusual. Anyway, in I walked full of anticipation. She said she would explain the basics of Reiki to me in the living room first before we went through to the back room for the treatment.

So, I stepped forward into her living room and as I did, I gasped. I felt goosebumps all over and a sudden surge of emotion. It was one of the most electrifying moments I have ever experienced.

For the longest time whenever my life got too busy and I needed a moment to myself, I used to imagine being in a beautiful, inspiring white room. It had a large white sofa and 2 chairs, a simple side table with a few treasures displayed on it, and there was a sparking crystal hanging over the window. It was my room, my white room, my place for getting calm, relaxed and feeling my energy renew.

When I entered this lady’s room, guess what I saw? Yes, it was my white room, exactly as I had visualised it in my mind’s eye. Every detail was the same. I had to sit down quickly to take it in. What an amazing thing. I knew instantly this was my white room and that I was meant to be there.

Since then, I’ve had many wonderful Reiki sessions with this lady and her beautiful living room now holds a very special place in my heart.

If you can visualise yourself experiencing something in your life, then you can make it happen. Yes, it is that simple. The wonderful thing about imagination is that you can get a real sense of what it would be like in advance just as if it were real. This means that you can easily test out what you want and don’t want in your life before you take any action. You can rehearse it over and over till it becomes second nature. On top of all that, the very act of visualising starts to make it appear for real in your life.

I have found visualisation to be immensely helpful in many different life situations.

Here’s a few examples:

  • When you need a moment of calm you can bring up an image of a safe, relaxing space (like my white room).
  • When you have an important future event to prepare for (like a job interview or performance of some sort) you can picture the event in advance and play it through over and over until you feel comfortable with it.
  • When you want to make it easier to break a bad habit you can think of an unpleasant image associated with the habit – that will really help to play down the temptation.
  • When you are looking to make a change in your life or try out something new, you can visualise it in detail, imagining yourself in that new experience and becoming more and more receptive to making it happen.

Visualisation really is very powerful and the more detail you can put into your picture the better it works. You can create mental images whenever you want about whatever you want! Look at them frequently and sooner or later your mental images will appear in your life.

"Clearly visualise what you want in your life knowing that what you see is what you get."
