The Story of My Business Card Trick

The Story of My Business Card Trick

Every time I opened my briefcase, I saw my business card. Nothing unusual about that you might think. Most people put their business cards in their brief case in the little id holder or to keep a spare supply handy. But this business card of mine was different. First of all, it was huge – the size of A4 in fact! Secondly it was describing me in a job that I did not yet have! What on earth is that about?

Not long before, I had been given a side-ways move into a new department and if I am being totally honest, it wasn’t a move that I was looking forward to. I was quite happy where I was, and I felt like this move was being forced on me.

However, at that time I had just started reading about the Law of Attraction and I decided to try out a little bit of manifesting. The idea is that you identify some experience that you want to create in your life and then start living as if you’ve already got it. I figured that if the job move was a step up rather than a side-ways move then actually I would be happy. I had long been thinking that I would like a more senior role so here was my chance to make it happen.

So, I got my computer out, set my creative skills to work and manufactured a new business card for myself. One that had that senior role I wanted on it. I made it look as authentic as possible and then put it inside my briefcase. Every time I opened my case, I thought ah yes – I have this cool role now! Not only that I started believing that I was already in that role.

Low and behold in less than six months, a whole series of events unfolded that culminated in my boss talking to me on the way to my desk one afternoon. He told me he was going to move me into the corner office and that he was promoting me – to guess what – exactly the role on my business card!

I just stood there, transfixed. I didn’t have any words. Somehow, I managed to say, “thank you”.

My real business cards arrived a few weeks later and I took great delight in placing my A4 “fake” one in the pocket of my briefcase. It’s still there to this day as evidence that I had just witnessed my first ever manifesting experience.

I like to think of manifesting as blowing a puff a magic dust into your life! It truly is like that once you get the hang of it and you will be amazed at the things that start to happen – as if by magic. In fact, there is a whole science around the subject of manifesting which I won’t get into here, but it’s worth exploring if you’d like to understand how it works. A simple way of explaining it is to think of getting yourself on the same wavelength as the thing that you want to manifest - like tuning into a radio station or getting on the same page as someone.

The “tuning in” process is all about using everything you’ve got - your thoughts, feelings, actions, words - to home in on the thing you want to manifest. A bit like losing your house keys, when you go all out to find them leaving no stone un-turned. The key point being that you know it’s out there – all you must do is become aware of it.

We all know the new car example. You decide to buy a particular type of car and suddenly you keep on spotting cars of that type – which you had never noticed before. That is manifesting in action.

"Live like you’ve already got it and manifest some magic into your life."
